Our campaign is late to the party. In 2023, UAW Local 2865 representing all of the University of California graduate student workers passed a resolution in support of normalizing relations with our neighbor Cuba! This was a big inspiration to the rest of us to begin organizing in our own regions.
The Resolution proclaims,
“THEREFORE Be it RESOLVED that UAW 2865 strongly urges Congressional members in their jurisdiction and President Biden to remove Cuba from the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism; and
“Be it Further RESOLVED that UAW 2865 urges our congressional delegation to pass legislation that will eliminate those aspects of the embargo that have been codified into law, remove all sanctions against Cuba by the United States, and allow the peoples of the United States and Cuba to travel and trade freely between the countries.”
